Drug Testing Kits
There are mandatory guidelines for parents, schools,
and workplaces that establish the use of drug testing. Some of the
problems involved with drug testing kits are; why is the testing taking
place? Who are the people doing the testing and are they certified to
administer such tests? These are concerns because of the laws that
protect us against fraud and abuse. If anyone could administer drug
testing, drug testing kits were available to anyone, and there were no
regulations, problems could develop. The workplace could become a
battle ground for workers and the workforce. There would be delays in
the hiring process, as well as in the work being completed on a timely
basis. This could cause lost dates in finishing important projects.
This is not to say that drug tests should or should not be used, but
rather drug testing kits need professionally trained people to
administer them. No matter how important and controversial the issue is
on administering drug testing, we the public need to realize that the
cost is extremely high and there are diagnosis of other things involved
in the conditions that apply when drug testing kits are used.
Congress and the courts agree that drug tests do not
diagnose disease. There have been claims made by some individuals who
tested positive on employment drug tests that the drug test diagnoses
them as drug abusers and thereby entitles them to protection as
handicapped or disabled persons. The courts have carefully reviewed
numerous claims such as these, and do not agree that drug tests provide
any basis for a medical evaluation of a disability or illness. This is
why drug testing kits need to be used in a professional manner when
administered in the work place.
Drug testing kits that can provide parents and
schools with portable devices to test children and give enough
reasonable evidence that the child is on drugs. After the test has been
administered the child should be sent to professionals and have other
tests administered, due the lack of knowledge needed to evaluate the
child. Parents and school officials should be required to take a course
in how to read and administer the drug testing kits. Most drug testing
kits require that the person who administers the test be trained in the
process needed and the knowledge of how the drug test kit works.
Some of the drugs testing kits available are as follows:
Oral Stat – A revolutionary point of
collection test for illicit drugs in oral fluids. Test results are
available in approximately 16 minutes. The kit tests for the eight most
commonly abused drugs. Each test strip has built in procedural
controls, and the kit tests for cross-reactivity against most common
drugs.
Rapid Tech – A multi-drug test stick that
detects two to five drugs of abuse. It is a cost effective alternative
for multi-drug screens. It contains a tamper-proof test device, no
timing is required, and results are ready in approximately five
minutes. Web based training with certification test and technical
support is included.
Rapid Drug Screen – Rapid One – A multi-drug
test with a specimen collection cup, ID label, temperature strip,
slotted lid, and tamper evident seal for transport. This system detects
two to ten drugs of abuse. Results are available in three to five
minutes. Rapid Drug Screen is US FDA 510(k) cleared for commercial
distribution.
Rapid Drug Screen in Cup – An integrated
collection and testing device for detection of up to twelve drugs of
abuse; incorporates collection and testing; temperature strip located
on cup; and can be read in three to five minutes. The specimen can be
shipped to the lab in the same container. A Web based training kit with
a certification test is included.
The Rapid Reader – A personal computer
peripheral that is connected and powered via a USB cable. The Rapid
Reader will interpret the test results and generate a report that may
be printed, stored, or transmitted electronically. It interprets
results from the Rapid Drug Screen and Rapid One. The system determines
positive or negative results and determines test validity.
These are just a few examples of the drug testing
kits available to employers, parents, school districts, etc. Depending
on cost, convenience, and accuracy, there are a large variety of drug
testing kits available to meet your specific needs.
